How to Get Started
at NYCBT
Beginning therapy can be stressful, and our goal is to make this process as easy as we can while ensuring that you find the right therapist for you. Here’s how you can get started:
01
Initial Contact and Scheduling Your First Appointment
The first step is to reach out to us via phone or email, or through our contact form. During this initial contact, we’ll answer any questions you might have about our services, fees, and what therapy at NYCBT entails. We’ll also gather some basic information about you in order to set you up with a therapist who is the right fit for you. Once you’re ready to move forward, we’ll schedule your initial appointment. If you prefer to speak with one of the therapists on our team before scheduling, we also offer a free 15 minute phone consultation.
02
Intake
Paperwork
Once you have scheduled your first appointment, we’ll ask you to complete some intake paperwork. This will include some basic information about you, a few consent forms to sign, and billing information. You will be able to complete these forms through our online client portal. We may also ask you to complete some questionnaires about different symptoms you have been experiencing, which will help your therapist better understand your needs. You will be able to complete these through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform that we use, and we’ll provide clear, straightforward instructions to help guide you through this process.
03
Your Initial
Session
The initial session is designed to help you and your therapist get to know each other, and for your therapist to begin to understand your specific challenges and goals. You’ll discuss your background and history, your current struggles, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. This appointment is a chance for you to get comfortable with the therapist and ask any questions you might have so you can decide if this therapist is the right fit for your needs. It also allows the therapist to confirm if they believe their approach can be helpful for you, and provides them with the information they will need in order to develop a personalized treatment plan for you.

Next
Steps
If you and your therapist agree that their approach is the right fit, you will schedule your first therapy session and get started! You will work together to set clear, achievable goals for your therapy, and outline the next steps and plan for future sessions. This collaborative approach ensures that you’re actively involved in your therapy and that your treatment is tailored to your unique situation. You’ll then begin your work together to tackle your goals!
