CBT
can help.
What is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?
Unlike many types of therapy that focus on how your difficulties may have originally developed, CBT focuses on what maintains these problems – in other words, what keeps you stuck thinking, feeling, or acting the way you do – and on specific strategies you can use to change these patterns. CBT is the most widely researched type of therapy and many studies have found it to be the most effective treatment for a wide range of mental health challenges. If you’re interested in an approach to therapy that is not only compassionate and supportive but also practical, goal-oriented, and research-based, CBT can help.
How CBT Works
CBT is based on the principle that your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all related, and therefore how you think or act impacts how you feel (and vice versa). By identifying how your specific thoughts and behaviors impact your mental health, we can develop a personalized, strategic plan to change these ineffective patterns.
Learning to recognize and evaluate unhelpful thoughts or beliefs
Approaching rather than avoiding situations that cause anxiety, disgust, or shame
Changing how you respond to unwanted feelings such as depression, fear, or anger
Developing skills for relating in a healthier way to the issues you’re struggling with
